Mary Jane's Crochet: Scarf with Flared Ends

Scarf with Flared Ends—Multicolor Suede—like yarn

 

Any yarn weight can be used to make this easy scarf, which can be worn several different ways. Wear it loose around your neck or tie into a bow for a different look.

 

Skill level—Beginner

Finished Size — 60 inches long

 

Materials

Lion Brand Suede yarn, or any other # 5 bulky wt yarn

3oz/111yd/85g per ball; Used in this project 1 ball in Spotlight Sage

Crochet hook size K/10.5(6.5mm)

10 pearlized wine beads (8 mm)

Sewing needle and thread to match yarn

Yarn needle

 

Gauge — gauge is not as important with this project

4 sc and 5 sc rows = 2"

5 dc and 4 dc rows = 2 1/2"

6 tr and 3 tr rows = 3"

 

Stitches used in this pattern: ch, sc, hdc, dc, htr, tr

To work half triple crochet (htr): yo twice, insert hook in designated st,yo and pull yarn through stitch, yo and pull yarn through 2 of the 4 lps on hook, with 3 loops on hook, yo again and pull hook through all 3 loops left on hook.

 

Pattern Note: This scarf has a gradual flare at each end, and can be worn several different ways. It especially looks great tied into a bow.

 

Instructions — worked in both loops

Ch 149

Row 1: Work tr in 5th ch from hook, tr in next 9 chs, htr in next 4 chs, dc in next 9 chs, hdc in next 4 chs, sc in next 90 chs, hdc in next 4 chs, dc in next 9 chs, htr in next 4 chs, tr in next 11 chs, , turn – 146 total sts11 tr, 4 htr, 9 dc, 4 hdc, 90 sc, 4 hdc, 9 dc, 4 htr, 11 tr)

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as first tr) tr in next 10 tr, htr in next 4 htr, dc in next 9 dc, hdc in next 4 hdc, sc in next 90 sc, hdc in next 4 hdc, dc in next 9 dc, htr in next 4 htr, tr in next 10 tr, end with last tr in top of turning ch – 146 sts

Rows 3 – 4: Rep row 2, end off. For a wider scarf, add more rows. Weave in ends.

Sew 5 beads evenly spaced to each end of scarf with sewing needle and thread.
